UPDATED: St Austell 'unexplained' deaths: man arrested at scene, post mortem Friday

Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of the bodies of two men at a property in St Austell.

Officers attended an address on Tregonissey Road in St Austell just after 4.30pm Wednesday.

On arrival officers found the bodies of the two men deceased inside the house. The cause of death is currently being treated as unexplained. One man, a 31-year-old from St Austell, has been identified and his next of kin have been informed.

The second man, a 22-year-old previously from Plymouth, has yet to be formally identified and his next of kin yet to be informed.

At this time, police are conducting thorough inquiries and an examination of the scene is underway to establish the causes of death. A post-mortem is due to take place tomorrow Friday 30 December.

A scene guard remains at the property while a forensic examination and searches are conducted.

DI Marie Ward said: “This investigation is at a very early stage and enquiries continue to establish the circumstances around the deaths.”

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and was later released on police bail until Thursday 5 January 2017 pending further enquiries.
