BEN THORPE – “RAKI”
Ben Thorpe, a 23 year old singer songwriter, a drummer turned guitarist and songsmith, writes honest and powerful acoustic indie, raw and personal takes on universal themes that paint pictures of life in the sweeping fields and sandy edges of his Cornwall home.
Influenced by Alex Turner and Julian Casablancas, Ben takes a natural place in the lineage of Jeff Buckley, Elliot Smith and Ed Sheeran.
After gigging as a drummer in various punk bands, Ben started writing his owns songs. “I found it came naturally. Irrespective of chords of theory, writing has always been about the rhythm and feeling for me, in a very punk rock way.”
With frequent air play on BBC Introducing and local radio, Ben is making a name for himself on the southwest scene.
Here’s some stuff people said about him…
“Ben manages to both emulate his influences and peers, and refine his sound into one that singles him out from the rest of the pack”
“The vocals fall somewhere between the sneer and snarl of Arctic Monkey’ Alex Turner and The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas”
“His honest lyrics and passionate performances indicate an artist singing from the soul”
Ben is based in the Redruth area and recently graduated from Falmouth Uni.
