HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to visit Porthleven
Cllr Andrew Wallis broke the news today “I can officially confirm today, that this rumour is indeed true, and Porthleven will have the honour of hosting the royal party on the morning of Wednesday 19th July”.
However, in the last few weeks, haven’t the national press been telling everyone that Porthleven is the heart of the Cornish Rebellion?! The story that the Cornish Republican Army (Party) have (apparently) claimed responsibility for an electrical fire at Rick Stein’s Porthleven restaurant went around the world.
And this week the village landowners have taken the law into their own hands and painted fake yellow lines in defiance of authorities.
So with Porthleven supposedly the heart of rebellious Cornwall, we have to ask, with our tongues in our cheeks on a Friday afternoon, is it safe for the royal couple to visit?!
Will the CRA(P) be preparing for more action?! Will the Duke use his Royal Perogative and park on the fake Yellow Lines?! Will Rick Stein be there?
During the visit, The Duke and Duchess will be introduced to many groups in Porthleven including the Porthleven Lights Committee, the RNLI, Porthleven Fishermen’s Association, Porthleven Community Group, the people behind the very successful Great Baulk Auction, the Gig Club, Porthleven CIC, the Porthleven Coastguards, the town council and its town warden.
Porthleven School’s Signing Choir will also be performing in front of the Duke and Duchess. All the remaining school children will be allowed to come down to the habourside and see the visit take place. Porthleven town council has bought every child a flag, both Cornish and the Union Flag.
The official time of arrival is kept secret for security reasons, but anyone who wants to see the royal couple will need to be near Commercial Rd and the Harbour Head/Fore Street by 9:30 am. There will be a road closure in place from 9am till 12 noon on Commercial Rd, Fore Street and Harbour Head part of the B3304.
“This is a great honour for Porthleven to receive this royal visit” said Cllr Wallis “I am sure the residents of Porthleven will give the Duke and Duchess a warm Porthleven welcome”
If Charles and Camilla manage to escape Porthleven, they have several other planned engagements in Cornwall on Wednesday throughout their Duchy.
The Duke of Cornwall will also visit The Cove Macmillan Support Centre at Treliske to meet staff, patients and cancer specialists. The Duke is Patron of Macmillan.
The Duchess of Cornwall, President, ShelterBox, will visit the charity’s new headquarters in Truro to meet staff, supporters and school children making use of the charity’s new visitor’s centre which provides a visual demonstration of the way in which ShelterBox provide aid around the world.
The Duchess of Cornwall will also visit Caterlink, a Cornish business specialising in ice cream cones, toppings, decorations and accessories in Bodmin
