A former Council House in St Ives has just sold at a London Auction House for £1.44 million, making it the most expensive ex-council house in Britain.
The property was sold by Devon & Cornwall Housing at Allsops Auction House – the money is expected to spent on other social housing projects.
The new owners are expected to demolish it and build a new property – but because of St Ives’ famous ban on new builds not becoming second homes, the new owner will only be able to replace one residence for another.
The property is overlooking the beach and situated on the north-west side of Porthmeor.
The bidding went way beyond the guide price of £625,00 and crept over the previous UK record of £1.4m for an ex council house.
