DESCRIPTION:Join us for a 99p Films social cinema screening of the film ‘Power Station’. \nCan a whole street be powered by the sun?\nPower Station follows the story of two artists as they set out to take their street off-grid and kickstart a solar-powered energy revolution. \nThe idea began in the depths of lockdown with the question ‘what could we do from where we live\, with the people around us\, to build power – of energy and imagination?’ \nWorking to turn a street and local schools solar\, Power Station is a scalable\, in-your-face prototype of community led power. Channelling Withnail and I and Ealing comedies\, the film charts the financial and emotional trials and tribulations of making change together. \nFrom sleeping on rooftops to growing thousands of sunflowers and attempts at Christmas number one\, community spirit and resilience are at the heart of this documentary. \nProgramme for the evening: \n5:45pm – Doors open\n6pm – Communal Feast\n7pm – Social Cinema experience – We begin with a short mindful breathwork practice\, before screening the film\, and then opening up the room to an audience-led discussion. \nFeast: \nAll the food for this event is sourced through the Falmouth Food Co-op\, winner of the Sustainable Food or Drink category at this year’s Cornwall Sustainability Awards. Their produce supports local Cornish market gardens\, including Loveland\, British grains producer Hodmedods and a host of other organic and regenerative growers. \nWe will be working with our trusted Syrian Chef Iman\, building off her signature dishes and introducing you all to some new culinary wonders. We use as much seasonal produce as possible\, so will provide a confirmed menu closer to the time which will be emailed to all ticket holders. \nThe meal will be vegan and gluten free. SUMMARY:Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek – Cornish language weekend
DESCRIPTION:Every Spring Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek – one of the larger support organisations for the Cornish language – holds a live language weekend (Pennseythen Gernewek).  This year the Pennseythen Gernewek will be held on the 28th\, 29th and 30th of March. The aim of the weekend is to give Cornish speakers and learners a chance to use the language in an enjoyable way and in a friendly\, stress-free and relaxed environment. This year sessions will includes workshops\, lectures and traditional style lessons\, alongside more practical sessions covering things like creative writing\, crafts using Cornish and singing. We will also be introducing a new 2 day intensive course for beginners or near-beginners with a focus on spoken language\, which will take place on the Friday and Saturday. Beginners will have a chance to practise their new skills and join in with other activities and workshops during the evenings and on the Sunday. \nFollowing the success of last years event\, we will once again be hosted by Cornwall Council at Lys Kernow (New County Hall) in Truro. Evening events\, including music\, films and more are being held at The County Arms and Royal Cornwall Museum over the weekend. \nThere has been an explosion of interest in Cornish over the past few years. Not only is Cornish being used in primary schools all over Cornwall\, but growing use of on-line communication has enabled new people to join classes and conversation groups\, including many from the Cornish Diaspora and elsewhere beyond the Duchy.  The Pennseythen welcomes people with all levels of Cornish. \nVisit the Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek website (https://cornish-language.org) for more details and to purchase tickets.
