Truro Community Comes Together for Seventh City Clean Up Event

In a remarkable display of community spirit, the seventh Truro City Clean Up event was successfully held last Friday, 8th March, and Saturday, 9th March.

Organised by Truro Business Improvement District (BID) in collaboration with Newham BID, the event saw widespread participation from local businesses, community groups, and volunteers, all joining forces to clean and beautify the city.

The clean-up kicked off on Friday with a concerted effort to tidy up Tregolls Road, involving activities such as litter picking, cutting cable ties, removing stickers, and washing signs throughout the city centre. The afternoon saw additional litter picking efforts at Malpas and in Newham, highlighting the community’s dedication to improving every corner of their environment.

Notable local businesses and organisations, including Savills, Hall for Cornwall, Stephens Scown, The Alverton, and Truro in Bloom, among others, played a pivotal role in the day’s success. Their participation underscored the collective responsibility felt by the city’s commercial entities towards maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

The momentum continued into Saturday with Damien Richards, the Community Development Officer at Truro City Council, leading the charge. He mobilised the Friends of Newbridge Park and the Friends of Daubuz Moor, focusing their efforts on litter removal in these key green spaces. The City of Truro Sea and Royal Marine Cadets also contributed to the clean-up efforts in Newham, demonstrating the wide-reaching involvement across different sectors of the community.

Kartha Commercial Cleaning was among the teams dedicating their Saturday to further cleaning tasks in the city centre, tackling sign washing and sticker removal to bring a fresh look to public spaces.

The event concluded with a significant achievement: the collection of 82 bags of rubbish over the two-day period. This tangible outcome not only reflects the hard work and dedication of all participants but also serves as a testament to the strong sense of community and environmental stewardship within Truro.

Organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, including Paul Caruana, a local volunteer community leader, for their contributions to making the event a resounding success. The City Clean Up not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of Truro but also fostered a stronger bond among its residents, businesses, and community groups, all united by a common goal of preserving their city’s beauty and cleanliness.
