Discover Cornwall’s Accessible Beaches with New Sand Wheelchair Map
Cornwall Mobility has unveiled a highly practical map, detailing all the beaches where sand wheelchairs can be hired. This development promises to enhance the beach-going experience for individuals with mobility challenges.
Partnership for Accessibility
In collaboration with Disability Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, Cornwall Mobility works alongside Cornwall Council and a variety of coastal charities and businesses. This coalition has successfully introduced all-terrain wheelchairs, commonly known as sand chairs, to numerous beaches across Cornwall.
Designed for outdoor use, these wheelchairs feature large inflatable wheels that effortlessly navigate sand and pebbles, ensuring a comfortable and safe ride. This advancement has significantly improved beach accessibility for those who previously faced difficulties due to mobility issues.
Safe and Suitable Beaches
Cornwall Mobility has carefully selected beaches that are safe and suitable for the use of these sand chairs. It is important to note that not all beaches can accommodate these wheelchairs due to factors such as steepness, remoteness, and potential hazards.
The sand chairs are available for hire at the following locations along the Cornish coastline:
