Public Safety Alert: Crantock Surf Life Saving Club Warns Against Sand Dune Dangers Amid Half Term Holidays

Published On: 12 February 2024Last Updated: 12 February 2024By

As families flock to the beach for the half term holidays, Crantock Surf Life Saving Club has issued an urgent safety reminder about the hazards posed by the area’s sand dunes. Coinciding with the occurrence of large spring tides, the club has highlighted the significant dangers of climbing or digging into the unstable sand cliffs at Crantock Beach.

According to the club, the sand dunes are currently in an extremely dangerous state, with the potential for sudden collapse, posing a risk akin to a sand avalanche. Such instability can lead to serious incidents or injuries for those venturing too close or engaging in activities that compromise the dune’s structure.

In light of these risks, the Crantock Surf Life Saving Club is urging beachgoers to exercise caution around these areas. The club advises that in the event of any incident or injury near the sand dunes, individuals should immediately call 999 and request the coastguard’s assistance.

The warning comes at a time when beaches are expected to see increased activity due to the school holidays. The club’s message serves as a critical reminder of the natural dangers that can accompany beach environments, emphasising the importance of adhering to safety advice to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for all visitors to Crantock Beach.
