Cornish Pirates have secured the talents of 23-year-old Welsh scrum half Cameron ‘Cam’ Jones for the upcoming season, in a move that promises to bolster their roster.

Early Beginnings and Career Highlights

Cam, born in Bridgend, began his rugby journey with Maesteg Harlequins, a local club that paved the way for his entry into the Ospreys regional pathway. Demonstrating his skills at an early age, he represented Wales at the under 16s level. Additionally, thanks to his Scottish grandfather, he qualified to play for Scotland and represented the country at the under 18s level.

Experience in Scottish Rugby

Cam’s career further flourished as he became part of the Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors setups. His tenure with Edinburgh Rugby was particularly notable as he played alongside current Cornish Pirates’ fly-half Bruce Houston. This connection is anticipated to bring a cohesive dynamic to the team as they reunite on the field.

High Hopes from Cornish Pirates’ Coaching Staff

Gavin Cattle, the joint head coach of Cornish Pirates, expressed his enthusiasm about Cam joining the team. He highlighted Cam’s exposure at the United Rugby Championship (URC) level and his previous partnership with Bruce in Scotland.

“A player who has had good exposure at United Rugby Championship (URC) level, Cam has previously teamed up with Bruce whilst playing in Scotland for Edinburgh A,” Gavin commented. He further added that Cam’s hunger to push his game further as a gifted young player is a promising sign for the team’s future.

Cam will be working closely with both Gavin and Dan Hiscocks in the scrum half department, a collaboration that aims to leverage his skills and experience for the benefit of the team.

Future Prospects

With Cam Jones joining their ranks, the Cornish Pirates are set to enhance their performance on the field. Fans and teammates alike are eagerly awaiting to see the impact of this new addition in the upcoming season.
