Padstow Defibrillator Saved, But Who Will Maintain It? Padstow’s New Challenge

Published On: 12 July 2024Last Updated: 12 July 2024By

Padstow Coastguard Association (PCA) has successfully secured the future of its defibrillator unit for the next five years, ensuring its connectivity and maintenance are covered until June 2029.

This was made possible through the settlement of an invoice from Duchy Defibrillators, a company specialising in the provision of such life-saving equipment.

Financial Concerns for Maintenance

Despite this success, the PCA faces a new challenge regarding the maintenance of the defibrillator. The agreement does not cover the cost of replacement pads and batteries, which are essential if the unit is used. The combined cost of these components is approximately ÂŁ100, and currently, there are no funds available to cover this expense.

PCA’s Fundraising Focus

The PCA has expressed its need to return to its primary role of raising funds to support the welfare of the HMCG Padstow team members. This means that they do not have the capacity to manage the ongoing maintenance of the defibrillator unit. The PCA is looking for a local group to take over this responsibility, although they will provide contact details for Duchy Defibrillators to those interested.

Call for Community Support

The PCA has thanked everyone who contributed to securing the future of the defibrillator unit. However, they emphasise the importance of finding a new group to take on the maintenance responsibility to ensure the unit remains operational in the years to come.

With the unit’s connectivity and maintenance secured, the community’s support is now crucial to cover the costs of replacement pads and batteries, ensuring the defibrillator can continue to save lives when needed.
