Cornwall Wildlife Trust is gearing up for Shoresearch Week 2024, a unique opportunity for anyone looking to explore Cornwall’s rocky shores and uncover the fascinating species that call them home. This year’s event takes place from Wednesday, 18th September, to Sunday, 22nd September, offering participants the chance to work alongside marine experts and intertidal specialists.

What is Shoresearch Week?

Shoresearch Week is a five-day event where participants conduct surveys along Cornwall’s Voluntary Marine Conservation Areas (VMCAs) during the lowest equinoctial tides of the year. The aim is to sharpen skills in identifying the various species and habitats found on Cornwall’s coastlines, providing a hands-on way to learn about the natural world right on the shore.

No prior experience is needed, and participants will be divided into teams to carry out quadrat surveys on the shore. The event is open to those aged 12 and over, though under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Where is it Happening?

The surveys will be conducted at five different VMCAs across Cornwall, giving participants the chance to explore some of the county’s most beautiful and ecologically important coastal areas. The exact locations of the surveys will be revealed closer to the event.
