Violent Behaviour at Recycling Centres Leads to Bans, Warns Cornwall Council

Cornwall Council has issued a strong warning to the public, stating that any form of aggression or violence towards its staff or contractors will not be tolerated. This announcement follows a series of incidents at Cornwall’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs), which have resulted in some members of the public being banned from using the sites.

Police Investigations Underway

While specific details of the incidents remain undisclosed due to ongoing police investigations, the council made it clear that these actions have crossed a line. Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, expressed the council’s zero-tolerance stance, describing the behaviour as “totally inappropriate and unacceptable.”

CCTV and Body-Cam Footage to Aid Police

In response to the incidents, Cornwall Council has confirmed that footage from CCTV, Automatic Number-Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, and body-worn cameras from staff will be handed over to the police. The council also reiterated that anyone displaying abusive behaviour will face a ban from all recycling sites.
