Cornish Pirates and Exeter Chiefs Clash Raises Over £1300 for Royal British Legion

A recent clash between the Cornish Pirates and Exeter Chiefs at Mennaye Field brought in an impressive £1,340.41 for the Royal British Legion, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated team led by Penzance’s well-known Poppy organiser, Brian Venn.

Community Support for the Armed Forces

Brian, who has long spearheaded collections for the Royal British Legion in Penzance, expressed his gratitude for the generosity shown at the Pirates’ first Premiership Cup game of the season. A loyal supporter of the Legion, the club annually schedules a collection close to Remembrance Day to honour the Armed Forces and support those in need.

“As I have said before, the Pirates, as long-time supporters of the Royal British Legion, annually help arrange for a collection to take place on a match occasion in their calendar which is nearest to Remembrance Day, the 11th November,” said Brian. “The opportunity is certainly not taken for granted, and on behalf of the Legion I would like once again to thank both the club and the always generous rugby supporters, and not forgetting those who importantly helped with the collection.”

Helping Those in Need

The funds raised will directly aid the Royal British Legion’s efforts to support the Armed Forces community, including active service members, veterans, and their families. Brian emphasised the importance of this annual tradition, remarking, “To raise such an excellent amount was outstanding and will enable the Legion to help those in need within the Armed Forces community, including members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families.”
