Christmas Day Drama on Rough Tor: How Volunteers Saved the Day
At 9:01pm on Christmas Day, the East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team (ECSRT) received an urgent call from Devon & Cornwall Police. Two walkers had become stuck on Rough Tor in treacherous weather conditions. The walkers, cold and wet, were located using Phonefind, a tool that proved crucial in this rescue.
As team members arrived at the scene, a stretcher evacuation was planned for one of the walkers, who was carefully assessed by one of the team’s remote rescue medical technicians. The steep and rocky terrain added to the challenge, but the walkers were eventually escorted to an awaiting team vehicle and transported back to their own car, ready to head home to safety.
The team returned home at 3:30am on Boxing Day, exemplifying their dedication even on a holiday traditionally spent with family.
