Unlock the Cornish Language: Exciting Weekend of Workshops, Music and More in Truro
Cornish language enthusiasts are gearing up for the highly anticipated Pennseythen Gernewek – a live language weekend hosted by Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek. Taking place from 28th to 30th March, the event promises a vibrant blend of learning, creativity, and culture aimed at speakers and learners of all levels.
What to Expect at Pennseythen Gernewek
The weekend’s goal is to provide a relaxed and fun space for practising Cornish. Attendees can immerse themselves in workshops, lectures, and traditional-style lessons. There will also be practical sessions on creative writing, crafts, and singing – all with a Cornish twist.
New to Cornish? A two-day intensive course for beginners and near-beginners will run on Friday and Saturday, focusing on improving spoken language skills. Participants can then put their new knowledge to use during the weekend’s wider events and social gatherings.
A Weekend of Culture in Truro
Following last year’s successful event, the Pennseythen returns to Lys Kernow (New County Hall) in Truro. Evening activities will include music, films, and more, with events hosted at The County Arms and the Royal Cornwall Museum.
A Growing Interest in Cornish
Recent years have seen a surge in interest in the Cornish language, with primary schools across Cornwall introducing Cornish lessons. Online platforms have also played a significant role in expanding access to language classes and conversation groups, allowing learners from the Cornish diaspora and beyond to connect and engage.
The Pennseythen is open to everyone, regardless of experience, making it an inviting event for anyone curious about Cornish culture and language.
