Trapped by the Tide: Teenagers Rescued by St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat

Emergency Callout to Porthtowan

The volunteer crew of St Agnes RNLI were called into action on Saturday at 4:32pm after reports of two individuals stranded by the rising tide near Lushington, Porthtowan.

With conditions changing rapidly, the lifeboat crew made swift progress to the location. Upon arrival, they spotted the two teenagers who had become cut off from the main beach.

A Safe Escape

The St Agnes Coastguard cliff rescue team was also on scene, enabling the pair to scramble to safety without needing to be taken aboard the lifeboat. Once it was confirmed they were no longer in danger, the lifeboat was stood down.

By 5:21pm, the crew had returned to the station, refuelled, and were ready for their next callout.

Tide Warning from RNLI Volunteer

Following the rescue, Dave Ruse, Head Launcher and long-serving volunteer at St Agnes RNLI, urged beachgoers to stay alert:

“Even if you have checked tide times, it’s important to remain vigilant. With shifting sands and changing weather conditions, tidal movements can be unpredictable.”
