Windsurfer Rescued Near Penlee Point After Evening Call-Out

Lifeboat crew race to help after 6:30pm call-out

A windsurfer in difficulty near Penlee Point was rescued by RNLI Penlee’s inshore lifeboat on Monday 5th May.

The Mollie and Ivor Dent (ILB) was launched at 6:30pm after Falmouth Coastguards received reports of a windsurfer struggling at Roskilly Beach, close to the Old Penlee Lifeboat Station.

Swift response from volunteer crew

Under the command of helm James Wood, the volunteer lifeboat crew raced to the scene. With a force 4 north-easterly wind blowing, the conditions were challenging as they arrived just a mile from their base.

The team assisted the windsurfer and also located and recovered equipment which had separated during the incident.

One of Penlee’s closest shouts

This rescue marked one of Penlee’s nearest call-outs, highlighting the importance of the lifeboat station’s fast response capabilities for incidents so close to shore.

The operation was successfully completed thanks to the skill and dedication of James and the RNLI volunteers.
