Drivers Warned: Major A30 Overnight Closures Start June 9th – Full Details Inside

Published On: 31 May 2025Last Updated: 31 May 2025By

Drivers travelling on the A30 through Cornwall are being urged to plan ahead as a month of overnight closures is set to begin on Monday 9th June.

From Monday 9th to Friday 13th June, the A30 will be closed in both directions from Chiverton Interchange to Mitchell between 8pm and 6am. The closures are part of works at Carland Cross to resurface the road, install new signage, lay footpath surfacing and carry out final white lining.

Closures will continue on weekday nights only for four weeks, with different sections affected each week.

Week 1: Chiverton to Mitchell Closures

During the first week, the A30 will be closed both ways between Chiverton Interchange and Mitchell, as well as:

  • A39 between Cornwall Farm Machinery and Carland Cross

  • B3285 between Carland Cross and Boxheater

Diversions will be clearly signposted. Drivers on the A39 will be diverted via the B3275 (Ladock Valley Road) to Fraddon.

Access to the B3288 and residents living in the closed section of the B3285 will be via Goonhavern and the B3285.

Access to Shell Garage, Parklands Toyota and residents of Wee Dower Lane will be through Mitchell Village and Wee Dower Lane. There will be no access to the A39 past the Shell Garage.

Week 2: Scorrier to Carland Cross

From Monday 16th to Friday 20th June, the A30 will be closed between Scorrier Junction and Carland Cross in both directions. This includes full closures of the Chiverton Interchange on and off slips.

Drivers will be able to travel north to south through Chiverton Interchange using the B3277, A3075 and A390.

Weeks 3 and 4: Continued Closures

In the final two weeks, the A30 will again be closed overnight between Chiverton Interchange and Carland Cross, both eastbound and westbound. The eastbound onslip and westbound offslip at Chiverton will also remain closed.

Diversions will be in place:

  • The A30 route will go via the A3075 to Goonhavern, then the B3285 to Boxheater and Carland Cross.

  • Access north to south through Chiverton Interchange will stay open via the B3277, A3075 and A390, including for HGVs.

What Stays Open?

Throughout the works, the following will remain accessible:

  • The B3284 (north and south) via Chybucca from Shortlanesend to Pendown Cross

  • The A390, A3075 and B3277 through Chiverton Interchange roundabout

Residents living within the closure area will still have access. Passes will be issued for those needing access to the B3285 and Wee Dower Lane, which must be shown to staff at closure points.

📅 Weeknight closures will continue until Friday 4th July, taking place Monday to Friday from 8pm to 6am.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
