Athena Learning Trust Wins International Award for Curriculum Excellence
Athena Learning Trust awarded international honour for curriculum excellence
Athena Learning Trust, which includes several schools across Cornwall and Devon, has been recognised on the global stage after winning the Excellence in Education Award from the National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI), a respected organisation based in the United States.
The Trust is the only education provider in England to receive the award this year, and one of just three organisations selected worldwide by NIFDI’s Board of Directors.
Recognised for Transforming Pupil Performance
The award highlights Athena’s exceptional use of the Direct Instruction (DI) curriculum, particularly in primary mathematics and increasingly in secondary reading. The method, developed over 50 years and backed by research, is known for its structured and effective approach to teaching.
Athena has rolled out the full-fidelity DI model across all its schools, and the results have spoken for themselves. The NIFDI award is given to institutions that have made “a significant difference in the educational performance of children,” and Athena’s commitment to high-quality, knowledge-rich teaching clearly stood out.
