Free Bike Repair Events in St Austell and Bodmin This July
Check-ups, Fixes and More – All Without Spending a Penny
Cyclists in St Austell and Bodmin are being offered free bike repairs later this month, with professional mechanics on hand to help get bikes road-ready for the summer.
Two separate events will run from 10am to 1pm on:
-
Tuesday 29th July outside St Austell Leisure Centre
-
Thursday 31st July outside Bodmin Leisure Centre
Both sessions are part of the Better Engagement in Active Travel (BEAT) Project, funded by Active Travel England and Cornwall Council. The BEAT programme is a partnership between GLL, the social enterprise that runs Better leisure centres, and The Cornwall Bicycle Project.
Free Fixes from Qualified Mechanics
At each event, cyclists can bring their bikes to be checked by professional bike mechanics. Tyres, brakes, saddles and gears will all be looked over and adjusted as needed.
“It’s all about giving bikes the once over so they can be ridden over the summer months,” said Karen Edmond, GLL Community Sport Manager.
Supporting Cycling Across Cornwall
Karen added, “We’ve been working in partnership with the Cornwall Bicycle Project over the last twelve months and are very pleased with the response we’ve been getting. As well as fixing bikes, there have been learn-to-ride sessions, and group rides out.
“Cycling is a good way of keeping fit and enjoying the great outdoors – especially in a beautiful place like Cornwall. That’s why BEAT is so important and, because the project is funded, taking part is free.”
Booking is Recommended
To ensure your bike gets seen, it’s recommended to book ahead by emailing:
📧 office@thecornwallbicycleproject.co.uk
Spaces are expected to fill quickly with both events falling in the first week of the school summer holidays.
