Ha Hum Ah Productions to Premiere Making a Killing at the Minack Theatre This Autumn

Award-winning Cornish theatre company Ha Hum Ah Productions is set to bring a razor-sharp dark comedy to Cornwall’s world-famous clifftop stage this autumn.

A Gripping Tale of Justice and Survival

Making a Killing, written by well-known local actor Ben Kernow, will run at the Minack Theatre in Porthcurno from 24th September to 9th October.

Set in 16th century Nuremberg, the two-actor drama follows seasoned executioner Frantz Schmidt and his apprentice Claus Kohler as they face the brutal realities of duty, morality and power. Their lives soon become dangerously entwined, forcing them to confront “fundamental questions about justice, corruption and the cost of survival.”

Inspired by History, Relevant to Today

The play draws inspiration from The Journal of Master Franz Schmidt, Public Executioner of Nuremberg (1573–1617). By focusing on the humanity and contradictions of those who kill for a living, it holds up a mirror to modern times, making “uncomfortable parallels impossible to ignore.”

Cornwall Company Making Waves

Since its establishment in 2018, Ha Hum Ah Productions has become a leading presence in Cornwall and beyond. Known for bold, imaginative and accessible stories, the company most recently toured John Nicholson’s anarchic adaptation of Madame Bovary across the UK, earning rave reviews and transferring to London’s Southwark Playhouse.

This new production promises to deliver Ha Hum Ah’s “signature style of vibrant, inventive storytelling.”
