Cornish Cyclist Joins Friends on London to Istanbul Ride for Charity

A Cornish local has set off on an extraordinary challenge, cycling from London to Asia with friends to raise money for two charities.

A Journey Across Europe

On 27th August, Ewan Davies, along with friends James Redwood, Kieron Lawton and William Rowlands, began their journey outside Buckingham Palace. Supported by driver Jude Metz, who is transporting their equipment in a van, the group are aiming to complete more than 2,062 miles, finishing at the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

All aged between 21 and 22, the cyclists have already pedalled through France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Over the next month, they plan to cross 12 countries, averaging around 100km a day before reaching the Bosporus Bridge, the symbolic gateway between Europe and Asia.

Testing Times on the Road

The challenge has not been without setbacks. At one point, the team were left without spare clothes, food, or camping gear, forcing them to rely on resilience to keep going.

Sharing their thoughts on the journey so far, the group said:
“Every mile has tested us – whether it’s navigating new terrain, being separated from our support van, or carrying on with just what’s on our backs. But with challenge comes adventure, and that’s the fun of it. At the end of the day, we’re just five friends showing that ordinary people can do extraordinary things if they set their minds to it.”

Fundraising and Online Support

The team are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer’s UK, with donations already nearing £2,000 on their Go Fund Me page.

Their journey has also gained momentum online. A video posted to Instagram has been viewed more than 27,000 times, and the group continue to share updates of their progress via @london_to_asia.

They hope their ride will prove that with determination, ordinary people can achieve extraordinary feats.
