Cornwall Brewery’s Big Win: Sharp’s Chalky’s Bite and Doom Bar Crowned Best in Country

Rock-based Sharp’s Brewing Co is celebrating after landing a string of medals at two of the world’s biggest beer competitions, with standout wins for Chalky’s Bite and Doom Bar.

Gold Success at World Beer Awards

At the 2025 World Beer Awards, Sharp’s brought home two major Gold Country Award titles. Chalky’s Bite, created in collaboration with Padstow neighbour Rick Stein, and flagship amber ale Doom Bar, both impressed judges.

Sharp’s Atlantic Pale Ale also secured a Silver award at the same event.

Chalky’s Bite, named in honour of Rick Stein’s dog, is conditioned on a bed of three hop varieties and fennel seeds. Since launching in 2006, it has become the brewery’s most decorated beer, with over 25 awards to its name. Doom Bar, known for its balanced flavour profile, added yet another gold to its growing collection.

International Beer Challenge Recognition

The International Beer Challenge also recognised Sharp’s this year, with the Cornish brewery receiving eight medals in total. Among them were five Bronze Ale awards for Chalky’s Bite, Doom Bar and Atlantic, along with a Bronze Lager medal for Offshore and another Bronze in the No or Low Alcohol section for Doom Bar Zero.

Doom Bar Zero has become a popular choice for those wanting the same refreshing taste of Doom Bar without the alcohol content. Offshore, Sharp’s pale straw beer, was highlighted for its herbal lemon aroma.

A Testament to Cornish Brewing

Sharp’s technical brewing optimisation manager, Jonathan Wide, said,

“We are absolutely thrilled to have received another eight medals across this year’s International Beer Challenge and World Beer Awards. At Sharp’s, we pride ourselves on creating high-quality, innovative beers and to see our efforts recognised on an international scale is a true testament to the hard work and passion of our brewing team.”

Both competitions are known for attracting thousands of entries from around the world, judged by industry experts including brewers, sommeliers and writers.
