Edward Rowe to Star as Dame in Hall for Cornwall’s Aladdin
Hall for Cornwall has confirmed that Edward Rowe will once again step into bloomers this festive season, starring as the Dame in this year’s pantomime Aladdin.
Back by Popular Demand
Known to many as Kernow King, Edward won over audiences last year with his performance as Maid Trott in Jack and the Beanstalk. For 2025, he takes on the role of Widow Twerkey, Aladdin’s mother and launderette extraordinaire.
Edward has also co-written the pantomime alongside Richard Healey, whose past credits include The Creakers and Peter Pan.
“There’s nothing more magical than a Christmas show at the Cornwall Playhouse,” Edward said. “We’re focused on fun, heart, and a whole heap of Cornish spirit this year, giving the classic story of Aladdin a proper local makeover with some cheeky twists and lampfuls of laughs.”
A World-Class Creative Team
The production will be directed by Nick Evans, who has an impressive background across the West End and international stages. His career includes serving as Associate Director on Billy Elliot the Musical in London, along with credits for Rock of Ages, the World Arena Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, and international tours of Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins and Bat Out of Hell.
In Mexico City, Nick directed a new version of Jesus Christ Superstar, which earned him a Best Director nomination at the Los Metro Awards. During lockdown, he also led a production of Romeo & Juliet featuring Sir Derek Jacobi and Sam Tutty.
Cornish and West End Talent Combined
Choreography for Aladdin comes from Jevan Howard-Jones, who has previously worked on Peter Pan with Cornwall Playhouse Productions as well as West End shows such as Wicked and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The creative team also includes Helen Tiplady and Kelly MacDonald, ensuring local Cornish talent is at the heart of the production.
Julien Boast, Hall for Cornwall CEO and Executive Producer, said:
“We’re over the moon to welcome Edward Rowe back as our Dame in this year’s Christmas show with the brilliant blend of humour and heart he always brings. We can’t wait to whisk audiences away once again for adventure, surprises, and proper Cornish joy in this homegrown production.”
