Falmouth Art Gallery has launched a new and experimental Augmented Reality (AR) Town Trail, taking art beyond the walls of the Gallery and onto the streets for everyone to explore.

The free digital trail, a legacy of the Gallery’s ‘Where Are We?’ summer 2025 exhibition, invites people to experience art in an entirely new way through AR sculptures created by local artists at five locations across Falmouth.

Art Comes Alive Across Falmouth

The AR Town Trail features works by artists Freyja Sewell, Jess Pemberton, Sarah McAndrew, Zoe Wilton and Jesse Clarkson.

Visitors can interact with the installations using the Adobe Aero app on their mobile phones, following the online trail map to discover sculptures and earn digital badges along the way. Participants are encouraged to share their #sculptureselfies on Instagram tagging @falmouthartgallery.

The AR sculptures on the trail include:

  • Everythings Coming Up Rainbows by Falmouth Art Gallery x Mothers of the Metaverse at the Municipal Buildings on The Moor

  • Evil Pea by Zoe Wilton and Jesse Clarkson at Fish Strand Quay

  • Transmission 002: Expression by Mothers of the Metaverse at the Kimberley Park Stage

  • Cornish Ferbie Pixie Ritual (Forest-glom 1.0) 2025 by Jess Pemberton at Kimberley Park

  • Green Man Reborn by Freyja Sewell (aka Danu Sewell) at Kimberley Park

Accessible Wherever You Are

For those unable to visit in person, the AR sculptures can also be viewed remotely through videos, offering a version of the experience with fewer interactive features.

Details on how to view each artwork, along with the full trail information, can be found on the AR Town Trail website.

The Gallery is inviting feedback on the new AR Town Trail, which can be emailed to info@falmouthartgallery.com.

“No Boundaries or Barriers to Art”

Donna Westlake, Access and Interpretation Manager at Falmouth Art Gallery, said:

“We’re proud and excited to be leading the way in the development of this kind of experimental art, with the AR Town Trail creating a lasting legacy out of our summer exhibition ‘Where Are We?’. With this project, we wanted to embrace the idea that there should be no boundaries or barriers to art, adding to the vibrancy of Falmouth by taking the Gallery onto the streets through these AR art installations. We’re really keen to hear what people think as we consider how we might further develop this concept so please do send us your feedback!”

Artists Sarah McAndrew and Jess Pemberton took part in the project as part of Screen Cornwall’s Immersive Innovation Programme Cohort.
