Fun for Families Every Tuesday Morning

St Mark’s CofE Academy in Shop, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, is opening its doors to families for new community stay and play sessions at Welcombe Nursery.

The free sessions take place every Tuesday from 9.15am to 10.15am and are open to children aged between six months and three years, along with their parents and carers.

Little ones can enjoy creative play and craft activities designed by skilled nursery practitioners, while adults have the chance to relax and make new connections.

Nurturing Spaces Designed to Help Children Grow

The purpose-built Welcombe Nursery at St Mark’s continues to thrive, providing an environment that supports both emotional and developmental growth for two to four-year-olds. Staff work closely with families to ensure every child feels settled, supported and happy.

With its strong community roots and focus on outdoor learning, St Mark’s offers much more than classroom education. The academy’s outdoor spaces include a dedicated forest area and a flourishing science garden, giving children the opportunity to explore and connect with nature as part of their everyday learning.

“A Wonderful Opportunity for Children and Families”

Deirdre Petersen, Headteacher at St Mark’s CofE Academy, said:

“We are so excited to welcome families from across the community into our school each week. Our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions are a wonderful opportunity for children to make friends, try new activities and begin their learning journey in a nurturing environment. We know how important the early years are, and our dedicated staff are passionate about ensuring every child feels happy, secure and inspired to learn. By opening our doors in this way, we hope families will get a real sense of the caring and supportive atmosphere that makes St Mark’s such a special place.”

Building Stronger Connections Through Play

Tracey Cleverly, CEO of the Learning Academy Partnership, added:

“Community is at the heart of everything we do as a trust, and these sessions are a brilliant way of strengthening that connection. The ‘Stay and Play’ initiative not only gives children the chance to flourish through play and exploration, but it also allows parents and carers to build relationships and feel part of the St Mark’s family. Our vision is for every child, no matter their background, to have the best possible start in life, and this project reflects that commitment. We are delighted to see St Mark’s leading the way in creating opportunities that benefit both young children and the wider community.”

Families are invited to join the sessions every Tuesday morning between 9.15am and 10.15am at St Mark’s CofE Academy in Shop.
