Council-backed loan scheme to help homeowners fund house repairs and green improvements

Homeowners and private landlords in Cornwall can now apply for financial support to make vital home repairs and energy-saving improvements through a new Council-backed loan scheme.

Helping Those Who Need It Most

The Home Improvement Loan is designed for people who might struggle to secure traditional loans, such as older residents, those on lower incomes, or individuals with health issues. It builds on an earlier scheme that focused on funding green energy upgrades.

Under the scheme, homeowners and landlords can borrow up to £25,000, while park home residents can borrow up to £10,000. The loans can be used to fund a range of projects including:

  • Roof and structural repairs

  • Heating and hot water repairs or replacements

  • Tackling damp and rot in the home

Full details about the scheme are available via Lendology’s Cornwall Council page.

“Healthier, More Energy Efficient Homes”

Councillor Peter La Broy, Cornwall Council cabinet member for housing, said:

“We want to support residents to make their homes healthier to live in, more energy efficient and cheaper to run. However, funding these improvements can be a problem for many – our loan scheme aims to fill the gaps for people who may not be eligible for other loans.”

The scheme will be managed and delivered by Lendology CIC, a not-for-profit organisation that already works with several councils across the South West on similar schemes.

Expanding the Support

Emma Lower, CEO of Lendology CIC, added:

“The extension of the scheme is a testament to how well this partnership has worked and the difference it has already made. By widening the offer, we can reach even more households who need our help.”

Residents can also learn more about the scheme and how to apply by joining a free webinar hosted on Eventbrite
