Pool Academy Welcomes New Artist in Residence and Announces Partnership with Leach Pottery
School’s new residency aims to shape the next generation of ceramicists
Pool Academy has announced the arrival of professional graphic designer and ceramic artist Lynda Southworth, who joins the expressive arts faculty this term as part of a new artist residency.
A Fresh Creative Chapter
Lynda, who has a deep passion for ceramics, will be supporting the development of Pool Academy’s brand-new ceramics studio. Working alongside art teacher Mrs Ellis, she’ll lead workshops, demonstrations, and collaborative projects designed to inspire students and strengthen the school’s creative provision.
Partnership with Leach Pottery
As part of the residency, Pool Academy has also confirmed a three-year partnership with the world-renowned Leach Pottery in St Ives. The collaboration will bring pottery further into the school’s art curriculum, allowing students to explore both the heritage and modern practice of ceramics.
Students will also have the chance to see Lynda at work in the new clay room and take part in an upcoming after-school ceramics club.
A Step Forward for the Arts
Principal Nick Ward said:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Lynda to our school community and to launch this fantastic partnership with Leach Pottery. This residency marks an exciting step in expanding our creative arts provision and providing our students with new opportunities to explore, experiment, and express themselves through art.”
Building on Strong Foundations
Pool Academy, part of the Athena Learning Trust, continues to place its core values of aspiration, belonging and respect at the heart of school life.
Ofsted inspectors have praised the school’s atmosphere, noting that pupils feel safe and value the strong pastoral support they receive. Lessons take place in calm, well-planned classrooms, with the morning greeting helping students start their day on a positive note.
