Redruth Library to Host Get Online Week Drop-In Event

Get Online Week is coming to Redruth later this month, and the town’s Library and Information Service is inviting people to take their first step into the digital world.

Drop-In Event on 20th October

As part of the national Get Online Week campaign, Redruth Library & Information Service will hold a Drop-In event on Monday 20th October from 10am to 4pm. The Library is a registered Digital Inclusion Hub, and the event aims to help those who may feel unsure about using technology gain confidence in a relaxed setting.

‘Redruth Library are delighted to be a part of this national event, aimed at encouraging reluctant individuals to take a first step to experience the online world,’ said Charlotte Williams, Redruth Town Clerk.

Fun Activities and Support

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Try One Thing’, encouraging attendees to explore digital tools through enjoyable and practical activities. Visitors will be able to:

• Play a game or puzzle

• Take a digital photograph

• Connect with friends and family online

• Watch a ‘how-to’ video on YouTube

• Listen to music

• Complete a QR code treasure hunt to win a prize

Those with their own devices are welcome to bring them along for a ‘get to know your device’ session with a member of the team.

NHS England Joining the Day

NHS England will also be attending to demonstrate the NHS App, showing how it works and explaining the benefits of using it for health information and services.

‘The session will be friendly and informal, helping to demystify the digital world by starting with fun activities. No experience with technology is necessary, and there will be free tea and cake!’ said Jolene Turner, Senior Library Officer at Redruth Library.
