Madron Parish Council has celebrated the official opening of a brand-new Wheeled Sports Park at King George V Playing Field, marking the end of a six-year community effort.

Community Comes Together

The opening event, held as a Skate Jam, brought together children, young people and adults eager to try out the new facility. A community BBQ and cake stall added to the atmosphere, while a skate competition and professional demos kept the crowd entertained throughout the day.

Years of Work and Support

Cllr Hugh Eddy, chairman of the parish council, said:
“This is the result of six years of work by Madron Parish Council.

“We had over 100 people filling in our questionnaire wanting a skatepark for Madron. From there a lot of work went into securing the £214,000 of funding to get the skatepark designed and built.

“Cornwall Council have been very supportive through the Community Infrastructure Levy Fund, Community Capacity Fund, and the Community Levelling Up Programme.

“The project was also supported by Sport England and the Madron War Memorial Trust, alongside LiveWest, Jewson and members of our community in Madron who supported our Crowdfunder campaign.”

Designed with the Community

The design of the new park was developed in consultation with local residents and constructed by Maverick Industries.

To mark the official opening, the ribbon was cut by long-standing Madron Parish Councillors Clare Roberts and Mike Scoble.
