Falmouth’s volunteer lifeboat crew were called into action in the early hours of Sunday 19th October 2025 after a 27ft yacht began dragging its anchor near Channals Creek, Trelissick.

Early Morning Call-Out

The crew’s pagers sounded shortly before 4.40am following a Pan Pan emergency radio call received by HM Falmouth Coastguard. The yacht, with one person on board, was reported to be dangerously close to shore.

Falmouth’s Shannon class lifeboat Decibel Too launched at 4.53am, heading up the River Fal in challenging conditions, with Southerly force 6 to 7 winds and driving rain. The lifeboat reached the scene at 5.15am.

Yacht Escorted to Safety

After a brief search, the casualty vessel was located. The coxswain skilfully manoeuvred alongside, allowing a crew member to board the yacht to assist with recovering the anchor and guiding the vessel to safety.

The lifeboat then escorted the yacht to Tregothnan Pontoons, where it was secured by 6.03am. By 7.00am, the lifeboat had returned to the boathouse and was ready for further service.
