Truro Bonfire Night 2025 Cancelled: Safety Fears End Popular Event

Published On: 21 October 2025Last Updated: 21 October 2025By

Truro City Council has confirmed that this year’s Bonfire Night and Fireworks Display will not go ahead, following safety concerns and traffic issues experienced during last year’s event.

Safety and Congestion Concerns

The decision comes after what the Council described as a “thorough review” of the event’s arrangements and the latest guidance on staging public events. The review also looked into whether the celebration could be moved to another venue, but no suitable alternative could be found that would ensure public safety without incurring “significant additional costs”.

As the display is a largely charitable event, the Council said that any extra costs would have reduced donations to the charities who help to run it.

Other Events Also Affected

Truro City Council noted that other nearby firework events have also been cancelled this year. In the Council’s view, this would have further increased the number of people expected to attend the Truro display, raising safety concerns about accommodating larger crowds with the staff and volunteers available.

“Safety Must Remain the Highest Priority”

Town Clerk David Rodda said:

“We understand this will be disappointing news for many residents and visitors to Truro, but our ability to organise an event of this scale so that it is safe and enjoyable for all involved must remain Truro City Council’s highest priority.”

Hopes for a Return in 2026

While 2025’s event will not take place, the Council has confirmed it will be exploring alternative options for 2026. Plans will include reviewing potential new venues and examining ways to improve traffic and pedestrian access to support the safe return of the event in future years.

Truro City Council thanked residents for their understanding.
