Why Penzance Tops the List as Cornwall’s Happiest Place to Live
Penzance has been named the happiest place to live in Cornwall, according to a new survey by online furniture retailer Furniturebox.
The historic seaside town came out on top in a study ranking the UK’s 75 happiest places, based on factors including green spaces, good state schools, affordable housing, and access to quality pubs, restaurants, independent shops and cultural attractions.
The Top Five Happiest Places in Cornwall
Following Penzance in the Cornwall rankings were Truro in second place, St Agnes in third, Fowey in fourth and Port Isaac in fifth.
What Makes Penzance Shine
Described as an up-and-coming town with a lively atmosphere, Penzance has become known for its indie shops, “hipster” culture and historic outdoor pool.
For families, the town offers a number of highly rated schools. Alverton Community Primary School and Gulval School have both been rated “Good” by Ofsted, while secondary options include Humphry Davy School, Mounts Bay Academy and Cape Cornwall School, all recognised for their strong performance.
Locals and visitors alike can enjoy pubs such as the Dolphin Tavern and the Admiral Benbow, both praised for their welcoming atmosphere and character.
Survey Findings
Online store Furniturebox polled 5,000 people, with panels in each major city and county including Cornwall.
A Furniturebox spokesperson said: “Penzance is the happiest place to live in Cornwall. All 75 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a wonderful place to live, loved by visitors from all over the world.
“Most of the locations in the top 75 are not the most affluent in their localities and have access to some affordable housing including Penzance which is very popular with families. The survey shows that the happiest places are not defined by wealth but by the quality of life within them.”
