Cornwall Mum’s £20 ‘Adopt a Dog’ Party Melts Hearts in Callington
When mum-of-two Aisha Humphreys, 28, decided to plan a get-together for her daughter and their friends, she wanted it to be more than just another playdate. What she created was a heartwarming “Adopt a Dog” party that brought ten local families in Callington, Cornwall, together for a day full of creativity and smiles.
A Fun Twist on a Playdate
Using affordable finds from Temu, Aisha turned her kitchen table into a mini “adoption centre” complete with toy dogs, cardboard kennels and pretend adoption certificates. The activity was aimed at young children, including her five-year-old daughter Luna, her three-year-old son Remi and their friends.
“I had everything set out ready for the children and their little faces just lit up when they saw the dogs,” Aisha said. “There were three different coloured toys to choose from, and they were so excited to choose which one they wanted to ‘adopt’.”
Creativity and Community
Once the children selected their plush pets, they decorated collars with ribbons and bone charms, designed kennels with paw print stickers and completed adoption certificates giving their new pets names.
“It was really nice for all my mum friends to see their children writing [their pet’s names on the certificates] because although they are learning this at school they don’t often do it at home,” Aisha said.
“Even the children who aren’t writing just yet really enjoyed drawing pictures of their dogs and one of the other mums told me her little girl has the certificate up on her bedroom wall.”
A Budget-Friendly Success
The fun continued with bone-shaped “dog biscuits” for snack time, and the entire party came together for around £20.
According to an Ipsos survey commissioned by Temu, shoppers say they save an average of 24%, with eight in 10 rating the platform as offering excellent or good value for money.
Aisha, who is engaged to fiancé Callum, proved that a little creativity and a few affordable finds can go a long way in creating memories that last.
