Kota Takes Over Kota Kai for a New Winter Dining Experience
Kota to Launch Winter Take Over Inside Kota Kai from November 6th
Kota, the acclaimed Porthleven restaurant run by chef patron Jude Kereama, is set to move just a few doors down this winter. From Thursday 6th November, Kota will operate three days a week, Thursday to Saturday, from within its sister restaurant Kota Kai, located on the harbour head.
The move will see Kota take over the beautifully appointed lounge at Kota Kai, offering diners the same fine dining experience in a new but equally special setting.
Jude said:
“2025 has been one of the most challenging years the hospitality industry has faced. Whilst we remain positive about the future, we also feel it’s important to be transparent about the realities we’re navigating. Rising costs and shifting dining habits have forced all of us to think differently about how we operate. I’m fortunate to have Kota Kai just next door, which gives us the flexibility to adapt rather than stand still. Consolidating for the winter is a practical decision, as it allows us to protect our team, maintain the quality of experience our guests expect, and ensure Kota continues to thrive as we head towards our twentieth year.”
A Familiar Taste in a New Setting
The winter menu will stay true to Kota’s signature style, featuring nostalgic dishes that have defined the restaurant over the years, refreshed with new touches. Guests will still be able to enjoy the tasting menu, alongside a selection of snacks.
Highlights include dishes such as Rockpool 2025, Duo of Duck 2025, Mackerel tartare and Crab raviolo with spicy bisque and sea vegetables – all reminiscent of Jude’s appearances on Great British Menu.
The entire Kota front of house team, led by Elle Lagdon, will also move across for the takeover to ensure the same friendly and welcoming atmosphere that guests have come to expect.
Looking Ahead to 20 Years of Kota
Jude added:
“Bringing both restaurants together under one roof this winter feels like a natural and positive step forward and we’re looking at this as a chance to refocus, stay resilient through the quieter months, and continue sharing the spirit of Kota in a lively, welcoming setting at Kota Kai. As we approach 2026 and celebrate Kota’s 20th anniversary, we’re filled with renewed energy and optimism for the future and can’t wait to welcome guests back to where it all began.”
Throughout the winter season, Jude will be in the kitchen overseeing both restaurants, working alongside head chefs Sean Sjoholm and Ryan Venning, who will lead the teams for Kota and Kota Kai respectively.
About Kota
Founded in 2006 by Jude and his late wife Jane, Kota has become a cornerstone of the Cornish dining scene, earning recognition from the Good Food Guide, the Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand Award, and three AA Rosettes.
Jude’s passion for Cornwall and its produce has earned him numerous accolades, including Trencherman’s Special Contribution Award (2020) and Chef of the Year (2019). He has represented the South West on Great British Menu, winning the title of South West Champion and Banquet Chef in 2021.
Kota also offers three bedrooms for guests wishing to stay in Porthleven and will continue serving its four-course tasting menus from £60, with vegetarian and vegan options available.
The winter takeover begins 6th November 2025 at Kota Kai in Porthleven.
