Millionth Visitor Celebrated at Hall for Cornwall

Published On: 4 November 2025Last Updated: 4 November 2025By

Hall for Cornwall marked a major milestone this week, celebrating its one millionth audience member since reopening the transformed Cornwall Playhouse. The announcement came during a performance of Cornwall My Home by local folk artist Will Keating, known for his work with Falmouth-based group The Oggymen.

A Moment in the Spotlight

Davina Mann was the lucky audience member picked out during the show when the spotlight fell on her just before the interval. Will invited Davina on stage, where she was presented with a Hall for Cornwall Membership and a family ticket to the upcoming Cornwall Playhouse production of Aladdin. She was joined by Harry Glasson, the Cornish songwriter who penned Cornwall My Home.

Afterwards, Davina and her partner were treated to a celebratory glass of fizz in the Playhouse Bar.

“A Huge Moment for Cornwall”

Hall for Cornwall’s CEO and Creative Director Julien Boast said:

“This is a huge moment for us at HfC, and for Cornwall, as we celebrate the beating heart of creativity in our region. A whole combination of things have led us to this point of celebration. Through our transformative regeneration project 4 years ago we were able to really make a mark on the wider UK cultural scene. We’ve welcomed bigger shows onto our stage, become a respected name on the regional touring circuit, and most importantly we’ve been able to do it all with the warmest Cornish welcome, thanks to our staff and, of course, our team of fantastic volunteers. And it’s our audiences who make us – meur ras, thank you to all who’ve joined us on this magical journey so far. We’re ready and waiting to welcome the next million.”

From Fishermen’s Friends to World-Class Theatre

It’s been just over four years since the Cornwall Playhouse reopened in October 2021 following a multi-million pound transformation. The venue’s first night featured Fishermen’s Friends The Musical, co-produced by Hall for Cornwall’s producing arm, Cornwall Playhouse Productions. The show went on to tour across the UK and North America to packed audiences and critical acclaim.

Since then, Cornwall Playhouse Productions has grown rapidly, staging popular Christmas shows including Cinderella, Treasure Island, Peter Pan, Jack and the Beanstalk and this year’s upcoming Aladdin.

Championing Cornish Talent

Hall for Cornwall continues to focus on nurturing homegrown creativity, supporting Cornwall-based artists and producing new work within the Duchy. Alongside local productions, the venue has also hosted some of the biggest names in theatre and dance, including Rambert, Matthew Bourne, and the Royal Shakespeare Company, who will open their national tour of Hamlet in Truro this February.

Record-Breaking Shows and Community Connections

Recent successes include SIX the Musical, which attracted over 10,000 people through the doors in a single week. The visit also saw students from Richard Lander School meet the professional cast, a moment that reflected Hall for Cornwall’s mission to connect the region with the wider world through culture.

Through its Get Creative programme and its diverse lineup of shows, Hall for Cornwall continues to provide opportunities for people of all ages to experience the arts and unlock their potential.

Looking Ahead

The year ahead promises more excitement, with audiences set to enjoy smash-hit musicals direct from the West End such as The Bodyguard and MAMMA MIA!, as well as performances from leading dance companies, top comedians and Cornwall’s own artists including Will Keating and The Oggymen.

Hall for Cornwall’s journey to one million visitors may be complete, but with another exciting season ahead, the Cornwall Playhouse looks ready to welcome the next million through its doors.
