Heavy Rain Warning Issued: Met Office Alerts Drivers to Flood Risk

A yellow weather warning for rain was in place from 12:00 on Tuesday 4th November to 08:00 today (Wednesday 5th November), with the Met Office warning of spray, flooding and travel disruption across parts of the UK.

Persistent Rain and Travel Disruption

Early rain turned heavier and more widespread during Tuesday afternoon before easing early this morning. The Met Office said 20–40mm of rain was expected widely, with some exposed south-facing hills of the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor seeing over 50mm.

Drivers were advised to expect longer journey times due to spray and flooding on roads, while bus and train services were also likely to be affected.

Advice for Staying Safe

People were urged to check if their property is at risk of flooding and to consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit.

For those travelling, the Met Office advised checking road conditions, bus, and train timetables to help avoid delays.

It also reminded people to prepare for power cuts by gathering torches, batteries, mobile phone power packs, and other essential items in advance.

Stay Updated

The Met Office warned that weather warnings can change quickly, encouraging everyone to stay up to date with the latest forecasts for their area.

This yellow warning was issued with a medium likelihood and low impact rating.
