Cornwall NHS Trust Beats Big Names to Win National Award
Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has scooped a national award for its use of data to help managers lead their teams and improve patient care.
The Trust was recognised at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) People Management Awards 2025, held at the end of September. Competing against major organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, the Trust took home the award for Best People Analytics.
Data at the Heart of Patient Care
Led by the Workforce Team, the Trust developed tools to give managers clear access to workforce data. With more than 5,000 staff, easy access to accurate information helps managers identify areas of need, enhance team performance, and boost productivity.
Over 18 months, teams across the organisation worked together to create a set of data dashboards that now play a central role in workforce reporting. Managers were consulted throughout the process to ensure the reports were meaningful and practical.
Champions were identified, designs tested, and feedback gathered before the dashboards went live. Since then, the Trust has hosted training sessions and showcase events to help staff use the tools effectively and understand how the data can support operational decisions.
Continuous Improvement
The Workforce Planning and Intelligence Team continues to review and improve the dashboards, making sure they evolve to meet users’ needs. The work supports the NHS People Promise, particularly its commitments to flexible working and continuous learning.
Judges praised the team for their “enthusiasm and energy” in “raising the organisation’s human resources, workforce, and manager capability.”
“I am incredibly proud of my team. This is a fantastic achievement. The team have worked hard to ensure workforce data delivers great patient care,” said Alison Thorne-Henderson, Dual Chief People Officer.
