Cornwall Council Wants to Know Your Priorities. What Will You Say?

Cornwall Council is asking residents to spell out what actions would have the biggest positive impact on their daily lives. The call follows the release of a draft priorities plan that will guide the Council’s work from 2026 to 2030.

What the Council Says It Wants to Deliver

Following the May elections, the new administration has set out its focus areas for the years ahead. These priorities include:

• Strong, safe and vibrant communities with more decent and affordable housing
• A clean, green Cornwall with healthy rivers and seas
• A resilient economy providing good growth and jobs
• A caring place for families where children can build a bright future
• Support for people to live healthy and dignified lives
• Connected, safe and reliable roads and transport

On Wednesday, Cabinet agreed a draft Council Priorities Plan for 2026 to 2030. The plan outlines what the Council will focus on to achieve the aims set by the new administration.

Financial Reality Behind the Plan

The plan also explains the Financial Principles that will guide how Cornwall Council delivers these priorities while staying financially sustainable.

The Council said the financial context remains challenging. Demand for services continues to rise and the costs of delivering them are increasing. To maintain a balanced budget, further savings will be needed and some services will be reviewed.

The Council added that the Government plans to give local authorities more certainty around future revenue funding, which would make long-term planning easier.

The Council described the 2026 to 2030 plan as its Business Plan, guiding how it will work to deliver improved outcomes for residents. It will support a full review of spending, future budget proposals and the Medium Term Financial Plans.

Residents Asked to Have Their Say

Cornwall Council is inviting people to give feedback on which actions they believe should be prioritised.

Residents can share their views through the survey, which is available until 18th January 2026.
