What’s Lighting Up Heligan This Winter? Night Garden Opens in Style
The Lost Gardens of Heligan has opened its Night Garden winter celebration for 2025, marking the start of a festive season filled with colour, lanterns and glowing installations across the world-famous gardens.
New Light Installations Unveiled
This year’s event includes several new larger-than-life displays alongside returning favourites.
A standout for 2025 is Dance of the Standing Stones, a light installation in Heligan’s Park-an-Lann area that pays homage to Cornwall’s menhirs and megaliths.
Also new is Submergence, an immersive walkthrough installation that transforms the reserve yard into a glowing ocean of movement and colour.
Lanterns, Wildlife and a Tribute to Home
Heligan’s popular animal-inspired lanterns are back, including the festive robin, giant spider and foxes. New additions this year include a water vole, dragonflies and a flock of vibrant bee-eating birds.
Another new feature is A Place We Call Home, a glowing tribute to the work of partner charity St Petrocs. Words for home are projected onto the ground around the installation. St Petrocs works to end homelessness in Cornwall.
Food, Fire and Festive Treats
Visitors can warm up at the festive food village, where Heligan’s Meadow Kitchen is opening to nighttime visitors for the first time. A vintage ice cream van and a Verdant Brewing Co. bar also feature along the trail.
The well-known fire pits have returned for marshmallow toasting, and the Steward’s House is serving winter warmers and sweet treats.
“A Wonderful Opening Weekend”
David Harland, chief executive of The Lost Gardens of Heligan, said: “It has been a wonderful opening weekend for Night Garden, an event that brings light and warmth to the winter season at Heligan. It has been incredible to see so many people enjoying themselves in the gardens and we hope to welcome many more through the Christmas season and beyond.”
