The China Fleet Trust has officially launched the China Fleet Trust Fund at its first Fundraising Gala Dinner, marking a significant moment for the long-standing charity. The organisation, which began in 1901 and was originally funded by Sailors and Royal Marines serving in Hong Kong, continues its mission to support Royal Navy and Royal Marines communities.

A New Chapter for the Trust

The Fund aims to expand welfare, respite, and support for Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Maritime Reserves personnel, veterans, and their families. The launch reflects a renewed commitment to increasing assistance for those who serve.

Rear Admiral John Weale CB OBE, Chair of Trustees, said:
“The China Fleet Trust has always strived to support its beneficiaries to the best of its ability. The launch of the China Fleet Trust Fund is an important step forward, enabling us to extend that support even further. We are deeply grateful for the presence of the Minister of State for Defence, Luke Pollard MP, and for the commitment shown by both the Minister and the First Sea Lord to the work of the Charity.”

Chief Executive Gordon Hannah added:
“Tonight’s gala is more than a celebration—it is the beginning of a new chapter for the China Fleet Trust. Our mission has always been to provide welfare, respite, and support to the Royal Navy family, and this Fund will allow us to extend that reach even further. We are honoured to have such strong backing from our partners and leaders, and we invite everyone to join us in making a lasting difference for those who give so much.”

Distinguished Guests and Strong Partnerships

The event drew senior figures including Minister of State for Defence Luke Pollard MP, Rear Admiral Jude Terry CB OBE RN, representatives from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, senior naval leaders, and defence industry partners.

Headline sponsor Babcock joined other supporters as the Trust highlighted the value of collaboration with fellow Royal Navy charities and organisations.

Focus on Sustainability

The Gala also showcased the Trust’s commitment to sustainability, referencing its 10 acre solar farm and innovative water treatment systems.

Recent Recognition

The Trust’s venue, China Fleet Country Club Ltd, recently earned Gold for Business Events Venue of the Year and Bronze for Regenerative Tourism at the Cornwall Tourism Awards.
