The 2025 St Ives Shanty Shout has once again shown huge support for the Edward Hain Centre, with volunteers and visiting performers helping raise £4,617.91 over the two day event.

A Big Weekend of Singing

Now in its ninth year, the Shanty Shout brought around 270 singers, 34 groups and roughly 100 hours of music to 11 venues across St Ives.

The event continues to draw well known groups, including Kimber’s Men, who travelled from Yorkshire to be part of what they described as a small but vibrant weekend.

Planned performances were joined by impromptu shouts, with crowds singing along to familiar local songs outside venues across the town.

Edward Hain Centre at the Heart of the Event

Volunteers supporting the Edward Hain Centre were easy to spot in purple t shirts sponsored by St Austell Brewery. They moved between venues collecting donations for the St Ives health and wellbeing centre.

When asked, volunteers said the event was
‘Music and an experience for ALL ages from Teens to OAP’
‘All of venues were packed with people eating and drinking and loving the music!’
‘My first wonderful Shanty Shout. The chilled vibe and the singers upstairs in Sea of Coffee were a pleasure to hear’

Guest appearances also added to the atmosphere. Betty Stoggs joined the volunteers and Pirate Pilchard from Falmouth said
‘I’m absolutely thrilled that Pilchard The Pirate played his part, roaming through the crowds with his collection bucket at the St Ives Shanty Shout. What a truly fabulous weekend’

In total, the volunteer collectors, Betty and Pilchard raised £4,617.91. As the Shanty Shout’s chosen charity, these donations help the Edward Hain Centre keep its services running for the St Ives community and nearby areas.

Support Spreading Beyond St Ives

This year the event also reached Perranuthnoe, with The Victoria Inn hosting its own Shout to raise money for the Centre to coincide with the main weekend in St Ives.

Venues and Sponsors Behind the Success

St Austell Brewery sponsored the weekend, alongside the support of a long list of venues. These included The Bier Huis Grand Cafe, Harbour View House, The Lifeboat Inn, Pedn Olva, the Pilchard Press, the Queen’s Hotel, Sea of Coffee, Tretho Lounge and The Western Hotel. Returning venues The Golden Lion and The Rum & Crab Shack also took part, supported by St Ives Town Council.

The Shanty Shout committee and the Edward Hain Centre thanked everyone who contributed, including volunteers, groups who travelled from afar, venues that donated funding for future Shouts, collectors and the audiences who filled the town and joined in.
