Members of the Cornish Pirates squad have backed a campaign calling for an end to violence against women and girls, recording a special video pledge that was first shown in Penzance last night.

Campaign Launch in Penzance

The video formed part of the launch of the 16 Days Penzance campaign, which began with a solidarity walk and vigil on Tuesday evening. The event was attended by CEO Sally Pettipher, Joint Head Coach Alan Paver and members of the Pirates squad. The first public viewing of the pledge took place at St Mary’s Church.

Events linked to the campaign will continue around Penzance until 10th December.

“Violence and abuse is never acceptable”

Sally said: “Our players learn day after day about respect and discipline. They put that into action on and off the pitch. Violence and abuse is never acceptable and I am proud that Cornish Pirates players are willing to speak up on behalf of the women in their lives and in our community.”

The video pledge can be viewed above and will also be shown in hospitality and on the stadium screen this Saturday when the Pirates face Richmond in Champ Rugby, with kick off at 14:30.

Anyone wishing to make their own pledge can do so through the 16 Days Penzance website
