The Garden Café in Newquay Celebrates Good Food Award
The Garden Café in Newquay is celebrating after receiving a Good Food Award, marking a major moment for the young owner who took over the business after first joining the team in 2021.
A Journey Shaped by Hospitality and Hard Work
Owner [full name not provided in the release] said she has spent most of her working life in hospitality, both in Cornwall and abroad. She first started at the café in 2021 and was grateful to the previous owners who supported her along the way. When the chance came to take on the café herself, she said it felt like a natural step.
“I have always taken an interest in business, paired with a huge love of baking and cooking, and recently graduating with a degree in Film, Media and Photography, it’s been an incredible opportunity being able to channel all of my passions into one big venture,” she said.
She explained that juggling university alongside running a business had been challenging, but also a huge learning experience.
Recognition for the Whole Team
Speaking about the Good Food Award, she said the accolade represents the inspiration, ideas and efforts that go into making the café and its menu the best it can be.
“The award is a special recognition of our hard work, and represents all of the inspiration, ideas and efforts that go into making the cafe, and what we sell, the best it can be. We are extremely proud and grateful to receive such an accolade. A big thank you to the Good Food Awards for the recognition.”
The Garden Café serves light breakfast and lunch options, barista coffees, specialty drinks, homemade bakes, cream teas and more. She said the team makes as much as possible in-house, and anything they cannot produce themselves is sourced from local suppliers.
Events, Festive Treats and Support from the Community
The café also works with Trenance Heritage Cottages to organise events throughout the year.
For Christmas, she said the decorations are up, the lights are on, and they are offering festive afternoon teas, seasonal food and drinks. The heritage team is preparing for Santa’s return to the grotto at the cottages.
She thanked her team by name: Ollie, Ella, Bea, Ethan and Eve, as well as anyone else who has helped. She also shared her gratitude to her family, grandparents, friends and the customers who visit, support, chat and even bring along their “fluffy companions”.
“We hope to continue into the new year successfully, with lovely customers, old and new,” she said, adding that The Garden Café team wishes everyone a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.
