Teylu Theatre Company Announces Festive Concert in Liskeard
The Teylu Theatre Company is rounding off its first year with a festive concert that promises nostalgia, music and storytelling in Liskeard on Monday 22nd December at St Martin’s Church.
Food and drink will be available from 6.30pm, with the concert beginning at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available now through Ticketsource.
A Christmas Concert With a Twist
The evening, titled I’ll Be Home for Christmas, has been curated by Teylu member and local performer and director Mark Sidey. According to the release, he has created a magical, nostalgic concert designed to get everyone in the festive spirit.
Guests will be welcomed with winter warmer soup, mulled wine and hot drinks before being taken on a journey back to Christmas Past. The concert opens with the joy of the season brought to a sudden halt by Ebenezer Scrooge, who shares a humorous list of the most irritating things about Christmas.
The performers then reflect on the true meaning of the season, guided by Incredible Phat, the innkeeper’s cat, leading the audience to a stable in Bethlehem. From there, the story moves to the trenches for the Christmas truce of 1914.
Music From Two Local Choirs
The show features special appearances from two choirs led by Teylu member Paula Every.
Benakord, an a cappella choir based at Coads Green Village Hall on Monday evenings, takes its name from the Cornish phrase for “women in harmony”. The release notes that Paula considers laughter and cake essential to the group.
The Launceston Home Ed Choir will also perform. Paula set up the choir to give home educated children aged eight to eighteen the opportunity to meet, sing and grow in confidence both vocally and socially. They rehearse at Launceston Methodist Church on Thursday mornings.
Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come
The second half of the concert shifts to Christmas Present with a tongue-in-cheek look at the season, followed by a reflective moment featuring nostalgic songs and readings.
The event closes with Christmas Yet To Come, where the audience joins in a medley of Christmas favourites.
As the release notes, “Teylu is Cornish for family and we invite everyone to join ours at this most wonderful time of the year.”
With the promise of music, storytelling and festive warmth, it looks set to be a popular night in Liskeard.
