Packed Cathedral, Famous Faces and Festive Spirit: ShelterBox Marks 25th Year With Carol Concert in Truro

Published On: 5 December 2025Last Updated: 5 December 2025By

ShelterBox brought festive cheer to Truro Cathedral last night as hundreds of people gathered for a special carol concert marking the end of the charity’s 25th year.

The evening featured appearances from Fern Britton and Cornwall’s own Harry Glasson, with the event held in aid of ShelterBox’s Christmas fundraising appeal. Founded by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, the charity has supported more than three million people in around 100 countries over the past quarter of a century.

Supporters, volunteers and staff came together for the celebration, which was described as a wonderful way to end a landmark year for the organisation. Adding to the festive atmosphere, The Rotary Club of Redruth served mince pies and mulled wine beneath the Cathedral’s towering arches.

Emily Mullen, Head of Supporter Engagement at ShelterBox, said the night captured the spirit of community.

“Seeing so many people standing side by side in such an iconic venue was a beautiful reminder of what happens when a community comes together. The Cathedral was packed and it was an evening filled with music, joy, and community spirit. Every song sung and every pound raised supports families around the world rebuild after disaster and it was really poignant to close the evening with Harry Glasson and The Clams ending on Cornwall my Home. Moments like this remind us that hope starts with community, and together, we can be ready to respond when the next disaster strikes.”

The concert was part of ShelterBox’s ongoing Christmas appeal, raising funds to support families facing disaster and conflict across the world. The charity continues to provide emergency shelter and essential items for people who have lost their homes to earthquakes, floods, conflict, or other crises.
