Cottage Orné to Open as Design-Led Cornish Hamlet in January 2026

A collection of historic Cornish cottages is set to open as a new countryside retreat in January 2026, following the transformation of a 17th century hamlet into what will be known as Cottage Orné.

Located deep in the Cornish countryside, Cottage Orné will offer 14 individually designed places to stay, alongside wellness facilities, creative spaces and landscaped gardens, all within a private rural setting.

From working farm to countryside retreat

The hamlet was once part of Tremaine Green, a working farm with a long history. The site has been reimagined by owner India Serlin and her family, drawing on the character of the original buildings while reshaping them into design-led hideaways.

The interiors were created in collaboration with Studio Alexandra, with the name Orné taken from the French word meaning adorned. The cottages feature vibrant interiors designed to sit alongside preserved historic details, with landscaped gardens by Chelsea Gold award-winning designer Darren Hawkes and surrounding wildflower meadows completing the setting.

Historic details woven into the stays

Many of the original features of the hamlet remain visible throughout the cottages. In Ploughman’s Cottage, the former cheese room now forms a bedroom, complete with ceiling hooks once used for hanging curds. Blacksmith’s Cottage still shows faint boot marks leading to a former hayloft, while Carpenter’s, Miller’s and Housekeeper’s Cottages were once shippen barns, with windows that used to serve as grain-pitching doors.

These details were uncovered during renovation work and retained as part of the design.

Thoughtfully designed places to stay

Each of the 14 stays has been designed individually, with rich colour palettes, bespoke upholstery and antique furniture used throughout. Design features include wallpapers from House of Hackney and Living Quarters, bathroom tiling from Artisan of Devizes and Mosaic Factory, and lighting from Matilda Goad and Munro and Kerr.

Accommodation ranges from a Shepherd’s Hut for two, to one, two and three-bedroom cottages sleeping up to six guests. Beds are dressed in 400-thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen and Naturalmat mattresses. Some cottages open onto private gardens, while several include outdoor Japanese wood-fired baths.

For larger groups, the Manor House sleeps up to 14 guests across seven bedrooms. It includes two living rooms, two kitchens suitable for private chef suppers, a pool table, a large dining room seating up to 18 people and two outdoor hot tubs.

Wellness, creativity and shared spaces

Beyond the accommodation, Cottage Orné has been designed as a place for rest and creativity. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, heated from May to September and used as a cold plunge in winter, alongside two handcrafted shepherd’s hut saunas with ice bucket showers.

A dedicated Treatment Hut will offer facials, massages and restorative therapies. The existing yoga studio is set to become a fully equipped gym, with a yoga deck overlooking the countryside and a tennis court also planned.

Creativity plays a central role in the hamlet, with a purpose-built art studio hosting workshops throughout the year. Planned sessions include painting, sketching, pottery, creative writing and floristry, led by visiting artists and craftspeople.

Food, gatherings and the Cornish coast

Plans also include a pantry shop selling local produce and simple home-cooked meals, as well as The Shack, a semi-outdoor kitchen for pop-up supper clubs. Seating will extend into the courtyard and Village Green, creating space for summer aperitifs and visiting food trucks.

Surrounded by coastal walks, fishing villages and well-known food destinations, including North Street Kitchen in nearby Fowey, Cottage Orné is set to offer a base for couples, families and groups looking to explore Cornwall when it opens in January 2026.

Location

Cottage Orné is located at Tremaine Green, Pelynt, near Looe in Cornwall. The hamlet sits deep in the countryside, offering a peaceful rural setting while remaining within easy reach of the coast and nearby villages.
