Visitors Can Choose Their Own Entry Price at The Lost Gardens of Heligan This Winter

Published On: 5 January 2026Last Updated: 5 January 2026By

Visitors to The Lost Gardens of Heligan will be able to decide how much they pay to get in this winter, as the attraction launches a new pricing approach across January and February 2026.

The Free Range Pricing trial runs every day from today, Monday 5th January, through to 28th February, including February half term and the Global Pasty Championships.

How Free Range Pricing Works

During the trial period, visitors will not be given a fixed ticket price. Instead, they will be asked on arrival to choose how much they would like to contribute to Heligan’s nature and learning programmes.

These programmes include Heligan’s beaver reintroduction, which saw kits born on the estate in 2025. Water voles and glow worms have also become established following reintroduction work. Later in 2026, Heligan plans to open a new red squirrel habitat and breeding programme, alongside further tree planting and outdoor education aimed at helping young people connect with nature.

Why Heligan Is Trying Something Different

David Harland, chief executive of The Lost Gardens of Heligan, said:
“We have seen big shifts in tourism habits as well as significant challenges across the sector, so we have decided to trial this model to test whether it could work for us and other tourism businesses.

“We are confident that we have a strong enough relationship with our audience and local community that they will recognise the value of the work we do and contribute generously.”

Ben Foster, interim head of marketing and communications at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, added:
“Free Range Pricing is a radical departure for us and a way to open Heligan up to a new audience, deepen our links with our community and tell the stories of the incredible nature and learning work we’re doing here at Heligan.”

What’s On During the Pricing Trial

The Free Range Pricing period includes a February half term programme themed around Heligan’s Home Farm. This will offer behind the scenes access and a series of animal experiences for visitors.

It also covers the Global Pasty Championships on 28th February, celebrating Cornish pasty bakers from around the world. The event will include Cornish music and entertainment, alongside pasty themed workshops and activities.

Extra Perks for Members and Pass Holders

Heligan members and local pass holders who pay by Direct Debit will receive additional months added to their passes, depending on how often they visit during the Free Range Pricing period. This applies to existing pass holders as well as anyone who signs up during the trial.
