Newquay BID Opposes Proposed Winter Parking Charges
Newquay BID has raised concerns after Cornwall Council proposed the return of winter car parking charges across Cornwall, including several car parks in Newquay.
The proposal follows previous statements that winter charges would not be introduced.
What is being proposed
Cornwall Council is consulting on plans to introduce winter car parking charges in car parks across Cornwall. This would include sites in Newquay.
Newquay BID says it is strongly opposing the proposal and has already written to Cornwall Council and Newquay’s representatives on the council to raise what it describes as serious concerns.
Impact on Newquay
According to Newquay BID, introducing winter parking charges would have “a direct negative impact on local residents and businesses, particularly during the quieter months when our town is already under pressure.”
The organisation adds that this approach “penalises our local community at the very time we should be supporting town centres, local trade, and year round viability.”
Newquay BID has described the proposal as “not acceptable” and is encouraging people to share their views.
How to have your say
Residents and businesses are being urged to make a representation before the deadline.
The deadline for representations is 4th February 2026.
Submissions can be made:
-
In writing to Parking Services, PO Box 664, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 9DH
-
By email to parking@cornwall.gov.uk
