Joe Way Paddle for Life Returns to Newquay Harbour in June
The Joe Way Paddle for Life is set to return to Newquay Harbour on Thursday 18th June, bringing one of the town’s most well known charity events back to the water.
A much loved charity event
The Paddle for Life was founded in memory of four year old Joe Way, who died in 2008 after living with a rare genetic condition and serious illness. Since it began in the same year, the event has raised more than £185,000 for over 20 local and regional charities, supporting children, families and lifesaving services across Cornwall.
The event has become a familiar sight in Newquay, with the harbour filling with colour as paddlers of all ages and abilities take part alongside local surf lifesaving clubs and RNLI lifeguards. Onshore, the afternoon and evening are filled with live music, food, charity stalls and family friendly entertainment, drawing hundreds of participants and spectators each year.
Organised by family and community
Joe’s parents, Matt Way and Claire Way, continue to organise the event with Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club and Surf Life Saving Cornwall. They are supported by a team of volunteers and local businesses.
Matt said: “The Paddle for Life has always been about bringing people together for something positive. It’s fun, inclusive, emotional, and full of heart. Seeing the harbour full of colour again reminds us how strong this community is and how much good can come from one day.”
Sponsors invited to support 2026 event
With planning now underway, organisers are inviting local businesses and organisations to support the event as £500 sponsors. The sponsorship helps cover the cost of delivering the day and increases the amount raised for the charities involved.
Sponsors receive recognition across event materials, social media and on the day itself, while showing support for a well established community fundraiser.
The team has already confirmed that St Columb Financial Services has signed up as a sponsor for 2026.
Matt added: “Support from local businesses is vital.
A £500 sponsorship makes a real difference as this money goes straight into the charity pot and helps ensure we can continue to grow the event while keeping it accessible for families and paddlers.”
What to expect on the day
The 2026 Paddle for Life will once again include mass paddle races, the RNLI memorial paddle, live music and DJs, along with charity and food stalls and moments of remembrance.
The event takes place on Thursday 18th June at Newquay Harbour, from 3pm into the evening.
